Helping to save your riding areas

Dear Member,

The wettest April since 2008 - a good omen for the dust-free season?

Lots of activity both on and off the trails this month.  Here's what's been happening:

Social Night - Wednesday May 2 (tomorrow)

There's still time to book your place at our first Social Night for 2012 - to be held at the Oxford Hotel Leederville tomorrow night.

We've got great 'show n tell' presentations lined up, including some awesome trails in Victoria, the brand new Stealth eBike and the latest news from Pinjar and Metro Road.  DEC will be there to talk about volunteer opportunities and answer any questions.

A cash bar will operate, snacks will be provided and the event is FREE for all paid-up RTRA members (if you're not currently financial or not yet a member you can sort this on the night).

Bookings are essential - you can book online here.

Lotterywest Trails Grant Application

We're waiting to hear from Lotterywest following our recent WA Trails Grants application.

The application is to fund the complete resurfacing of the 6km Family Trail at Pinjar to make the trail more family-friendly and durable.  Fingers crossed!

More Upgrades at Pinjar

On the subject of Pinjar, the resurfaced PeeWee Trail should be reopening this weekend.  Now with a firm, smooth clay surface this trail will better suit the youngest riders on the smallest bikes.

Meanwhile, DEC has been landscaping the car park to better define parking bays and to make the area more attractive for families.

The North Loop trail is expected to re-open this weekend as well after a fire obliterated the trail last month. And the tree blocking the Family Trail will also be removed.

Finally, with the V8 Supercars at Barbagallo raceway next weekend there will be a lot of traffic (including buses) on Orchid Rd running through the centre of the Pinjar Off Road Vehicle Area.  All riders are encouraged to take extra care between now and Sunday night.

Trail Counters installed at Metro Road

Two trail counters have been installed on the Pilot Trail Bike Trail at Metro Road in preparation for this trail being signed and available for riders.

As this project is about understanding trail bike impacts it is important that we count the traffic so we can relate the number of passes with the impact on the trails.

The trail will soon be signed and opened for riding and rider feedback.

Need a Motorcyling Australia Licence?

Membership of the RTRA qualifies as club membership for your MA Licence application.

We don't issue membership cards (yet) so just log in to the My Details page and print the page as evidence of your valid membership.

Adventure Rally Returns

The annual Adventure Rally, hosted by the Trail and Enduro Club is on again near Harvey on Sunday May 13.

This is one of the best recreational ride events of the year and with more showers forecast between now and the event the conditions should be perfect.

For details see the Trail and Enduro Club web site.

RTRA West Coast Safaris Rides

Back by popular demand - RTRA special rides with West Coast Safaris.

This year we have arranged two dates for RTRA members - a 1 Day 'Intro' ride on June 9 and a 1 Day Ride on July 7.

RTRA members booking either of these rides are entitled to a $25 discount (pays your membership for the year!) and will enjoy some of the best trails on offer in the South West.  Book direct with West Coast Safaris and mention your RTRA membership to claim your discount.

Creek Crossings?  No Problem

Want a summer toy and a winter toy but just don't have the garage space for both?  Maybe you need a QuadSki!

This bizarre device transforms from terrestrial to aquatic before you can spell WTF.

OK, so maybe it doesn't excel at either being a quad or a jetski,  And it probably costs more than buying one of each.  But just think of the fun you could have suckering your mates on their 'traditional' quads into a race across that lake!

Minimal Impact - Caring for Erosion Mounds

They may look like they exist just to make hills more interesting for riders, but those ripper little jumps found on steeper hills are there to prevent water running down the hill and creating ruts.

As riders, we can look after these mounds by not following a single line through them and by not being agressive on the throttle as we hit them.  Help keep hills in good condition and you'll help keep hills for us all to enjoy.

RTRA Blog

If you haven't yet checked out the new RTRA blog, head over to www.RTRA.asn.au/blog. Each week we will feature a different perspective on trail bike riding in WA. If you would like to make a contribution please contact secretary@RTRA.asn.au.

Spread the Word

The more members we have, the more we can achieve.  If you have riding buddies who are not yet members of the RTRA, forward them this email and give them a prod to join up.
