Family Trail Official Opening

The long-awaited and much anticipated re-opening of the Pinjar Family Trail finally happened on Friday November 8.

And who better to open the longest of trails at Pinjar than international adventurer, motorcycle enthusiast and all round nice guy, Charley Boorman.

Charley was in town for the Perth Motorcycle and Scooter show and jumped at the chance to come up and check out what has been developed at Pinjar.

After the obligatory cutting of the ribbon to officially open the trail, Charley, his manager Billy Ward and a convoy of RTRA members did a ceremonial lap of the trail; Charley punting the big GS1200 BMW around the tight and twisty trail like someone who spends most of his life on these big bikes.  By the end of the trail Charley had a big smile on his face, proclaimed the trail 'Great fun!' and joked about how important it was to keep riding to stop the flies from settling!

We named the southern extension of the trail 'The Long Way Round'.  Maybe it will inspire some of today's PeeWee riders to become tomorrow's world adventurers!

Senior executives of the Department of Parks and Wildlife, Department of Sport and Recreation and Lotterywest came along to help mark the occasion and it was a good opportunity for the RTRA to thank them for their support.  As the first ever motorised trail funded with a Lotterywest Trails Grant it was an event of special significance.
